Doug, a native of Illinois, has practiced law in Maine since 1983. He received his B.A. from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, in 1978. Between college and law school, he worked in the United States Senate in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Senator Adlai E. Stevenson III of Illinois. In 1983, Doug graduated cum laude from Suffolk University Law School where he was a membe rof the Law Review.

In 1995, Doug co-founded Kaplan and Grant where he limits his practice to personal injury and workers' compensation law. Since then, he has helped thousands of Maine's injured and disabled citizens. Doug has lectured at numerous professional seminars. He has served as Counselor to the Edward T. Gignoux Inn of Court and is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Maine State Bar Association, and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. He has been named as one of the New England Super Lawyers for the past eleven years. He is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of Maine and Massachusetts as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. He isa past President of the Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth. He and his wife, Ann, have two children. He is an avid skier and golfer and regularly bicycles to work on a year-round basis.
